EU ELECTION OBSERVATION MISSION OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED AHEAD OF ZAMBIA’S AUGUST 13 GENERAL ELECTIONS

The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has officially launched its mission to observe Zambia’s 13 August 2026 General Elections, with Chief Observer and Member of the European Parliament, Michael McNamara, reaffirming the mission’s commitment to impartiality, transparency and respect for Zambia’s democratic process.
Speaking during the launch in Lusaka on Thursday, Mr McNamara says Zambia has a strong democratic tradition and expressed confidence that the elections present another opportunity for citizens to freely choose their leaders in a peaceful, credible and inclusive manner.
He says that the outcome of the election belongs solely to the Zambian people, while urging all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful campaign, transparent electoral process and lawful resolution of any disputes.
The mission, invited by the Government of Zambia, comprises a core team of election experts and long-term observers already deployed across all ten provinces, with additional observers expected ahead of polling day.
The EU EOM will issue its preliminary findings on 15 August before publishing a final report containing recommendations after the electoral process is concluded.
