The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has welcomed investments in diversified energy sources, including solar and thermal power, describing them as an important step towards improving energy security and reducing the power shortages the country is addressing through ZESCO and other private sector players.
ZACA Executive Secretary Juba Sakala, however, says that while expanding power generation is essential, consumers must remain at the centre of these developments.
Mr. Sakala has called for transparency in project implementation, environmental responsibility, fair electricity pricing, and reliable service delivery.
He has also urged the government, regulators, and investors to ensure that the benefits of these projects translate into affordable and sustainable electricity for households, farmers, and businesses.
Mr. Sakala says energy diversification should strengthen Zambia’s economy while protecting consumer interests, promoting competition, and supporting the country’s long-term transition to a resilient, sustainable, and balanced energy sector.
