CHINA DONATES 77 VEHICLES TO BOOST SECURITY AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS

.

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu says the donation of 77 motor vehicles by the Government of the People’s Republic of China will strengthen security operations as Zambia heads towards the August 2026 general elections.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony, Mr. Mwiimbu says the ministry has for a long time faced serious transport challenges, a situation that has negatively affected operational efficiency within security institutions.

He notes that the donation comes at a critical time when political activities are expected to intensify ahead of the elections, adding that the vehicles will enhance both operational and administrative functions among beneficiary institutions under the ministry.

Mr. Mwiimbu further states that visible and responsive security wings are key to maintaining law and order, protecting citizens, and safeguarding the country’s democratic processes during the election period.

He has also assured the government of the People’s Republic of China that the vehicles will be used for their intended purpose with accountability, transparency, and care.
