Buses and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia (BTOAZ) has announced the reduction of bus fares for both local and long-distance routes from K 1 to K30.
Speaking in an interview with Diamond news BTOAZ National Chairperson, Sydney Chewe says local routes bus fares have been reduced by K1, and other routes including chongwe and Kafue have been reduced by K3.
Mr. Chewe adds that long distance route bus fares have been reduced between K12 and K30 in all routes across the country.
He says the reduction was effective on 4 July 2026 adding that bus stations should ensure that the directive is followed without fail.
Mr. Chewe further highlights that the reduction in bus fares is as a result of fuel pump price reductions for the month of July.
Kulima Tower bus station Deputy Secretary says the price reduction on bus fares will be implemented as soon as Road Transport and safety Agency RTSA formally communicates to the station by issuing a revised fare charts.
And some bus drivers from different routes have said the K1 reduction will not affect their cashing-in but will encourage more passengers to board buses.
Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has told Diamond news that a statement will soon be released regarding the newly revised bus fares later during the day.
