
A four-year, seven-month-old boy of Mulangu village in Chief Kashiba’s chiefdom of Mwense District has died after drowning in a bucket of water.
According to police, the incident occurred around 13:00 hours on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, while family members and other community residents had gone to a nearby graveyard to attend the burial of a relative.
It is reported that the child, identified as Ernest Kalaba, was left behind at home and is believed to have attempted to draw water from a large bucket before accidentally falling headfirst into it.
The child was later found unresponsive with his head submerged in the bucket.
He was rushed to Kashiba Mini Hospital in the hope that he could be resuscitated, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The matter was subsequently reported to Mwense Police Station.
A physical inspection of the body revealed no visible injuries, and police have ruled out foul play.
The body has since been deposited at Mambilima Hospital Mortuary awaiting burial.
