Chairman of Citizens Owned Pharmaceuticals in Zambia, Gallan Sichilima, has called on U.S. Ambassador to Zambia, Mark Gonzales, to publicly release the raw findings of a recent U.S.-led investigation into the alleged theft and diversion of medicines in Zambia.
Speaking on Diamond TV Costa Program, Mr. Sichilima strongly questioned the credibility of the report, describing it as lacking in transparency and accuracy.
He labeled the investigation “fraudulent” and claimed it does not reflect the realities within Zambia’s pharmaceutical sector.
He accused the U.S. of promoting an unverified narrative that could harm public confidence in Zambia’s health system, warning that such claims have serious implications for national institutions and service delivery.
Central to Mr. Sichilima’s challenge is the report’s claim that over 2,000 pharmacies across the country were assessed.
He argued that Zambia has just over 1,000 registered pharmacies, calling the figure “grossly exaggerated.”
