Zambia’s annual rate of inflation for October 2023 has increased to 12.6 percent from 12.0 percent recorded in September 2023.
Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) Statistician General Mulenga Musepa has attributed the increase to the upward price movements of selected food and non-food items.
Mr. Musepa adds that food inflation also increased to 13.6 percent in October 2023 from 13.4 percent in September 2023, while non-food inflation increased to 11.3 percent from 10.1 percent in September 2023.
He has revealed that food items such as cereals, and meat as well as non-food items such as fuel significantly contributed to the increase in the rate of inflation.
