The Zambia Statistics Agency Monthly Dissemination Bulletin for October 2022 has revealed that the country recorded a trade surplus of 1.1 billion kwacha in September 2022 compared to 3.2 billion Kwacha as of August 2022.
The Bulletin outlines that the Zambia’s traditional and non-traditional exports decreased by 6.8 percent during the same period, amounting to K9.7 billion in September 2022 from K10.4 billion in August 2022.
Zambia had five main export destinations mainly for raw materials that includes China, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Singapore and Switzerland that had for 37.6 percent of the 147.7-billion-kwacha total export earnings in September.
Zambia exported copper anodes for electrolytic refining to Switzerland accounting for 77.1 percent of total export earnings while exporting 20.1 percent of the total export earnings of the same commodity to China.
DR Congo was the destination for Zambia’s Sulphur amounting to 16.7 percent, while Zambia earned 2.7 percent from Zimbabwe from the Portland Cement exported to that country.
