The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has urged poll staff for the Mbeta Ward local government by-election to uphold impartiality, integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking during the training of poll staff in Sioma District, Western Province, ECZ Commissioner McDonald Chipenzi has reminded the officers that they must remain non-partisan and treat all electoral stakeholders equally, regardless of their political affiliations.
Mr. Chipenzi says the Commission expects poll staff to demonstrate accuracy, transparency and dedication to ensure credible elections during the November 5, 2026 by-election.
He has commended the officers for their outstanding performance during the 2026 general election, noting that Sioma District had recorded no election petitions at parliamentary or local government level.
He urged participants to actively engage in the training, familiarise themselves with the Electoral Code of Conduct and their terms of reference, warning that officers who breached electoral regulations would be replaced.
MR. Chipenzi has also held a meeting with Sioma Town Council Electral Staff whom he has encouraged to continue addressing operational challanges particularly in those that may arise from the handling and completion of electoral form.
The by election is being contested by two candidates among them Yuyi Stumbeko from the ruling United Party for National Development-UPND and an Independent candidate Mwanamwalye Mwanamwalye.
