A 19 year old cyclist is nursing serious injuries at Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital after being hit by a Range Rover along Ginger Street in Lusaka’s Salama Park in an accident that happened on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at around 17:30 hours.

In a press statement issued today by Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha says the cyclist, a resident of Mtendere East Township, sustained a cut on the forehead, multiple bruises to the face and body, as well as general body pains.

Police preliminary investigations indicate that the accident allegedly occurred when the driver of the Range Rover, 31 year old Suzyo Shuwa of New Kasama, attempted to overtake improperly and struck the cyclist as he was crossing the road.

Mr Shuwa escaped the accident without injuries but Police say the collision extensively damaged the bicycle, while the vehicle sustained damage to its bonnet, grille, radiator and front number plate.

The Range Rover, registration number MG 888, has since been impounded at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Police Station pending re-examination by the Road Transport and Safety Agency.
