ANTHRAX CASES HIT 21 IN MUCHINGA AS WILDLIFE DEATHS CLIMB TO 39

Muchinga Province has recorded seven new anthrax cases, pushing the cumulative total to 21.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Tuesday Bwalya says all patients are stable and receiving treatment in health facilities

Wildlife deaths have also risen to 39, comprising 28 hippos, four buffaloes, six elephants and one crocodile.

Dr. Bwalya has cautioned the public in Nabwalya of Mpika and surrounding districts in the province against consuming meat from infected animals.

He said livestock remains safe, with no cases reported so far and vaccinations underway.

However, he warned livestock farmers and butchery owners against selling meat from domestic animals that die on their own before it is certified safe for consumption.

The PS remains confident that the outbreak will be contain with the measures put in place
