
Newly elected Member of Parliament for Mafinga South Constituency, Faith Munthali, has been arrested by the Zambia Police Service in Mafinga District, Muchinga Province.
Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Lubinda Mayamba has confirmed to Diamond News that Ms. Munthali has been charged with being armed in public and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Mr. Mayamba stated that the offence was allegedly committed between July 13, 2026 and August 14, 2026 in the Muyombe area of Mafinga District.
He says Ms. Munthali was allegedly in the company of a group of men purportedly serving as her security personnel.
He says the individuals allegedly conducted themselves in a military-like manner and were armed with machetes, slashers, and catapults, thereby causing fear and alarm among members of the public.
He says Ms. Munthali, an elected lawmaker on the Citizens First ticket, has been charged with Being Armed in Public contrary to Section 85 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.
He says she has been jointly charged with Mr. Gift Simfukwe, Mr. Mishack Singongo and Mr. Royd Musumali.
The three co-accused persons have already appeared before the Isoka Resident Magistrate’s Court where they took plea.
Mr. Mayamba says trial is scheduled to commence on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
He adds that Ms. Munthali is currently detained in police custody and will appear before court in due course.
