Two people have died following a head-on collision involving two trucks along the Solwezi-Chingola Road in Solwezi District.
The accident happened around 06:30 hours Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the 15 Miles area, approximately 16 kilometres east of Kapijimpanga Police Post.
In an official statement issued to Diamond Media by North Western Division Police Commissioner Brighton Siwale, the accident involved an International truck and trailer carrying sulphuric acid and a MAN truck and trailer carrying an undisclosed number of bags of urea fertilizer.
Mr. Siwale says the International truck was been driven by 48-year-old Kapambwe Srattan of Bwanamukubwa Township in Ndola, which was travelling from west to east.
He says the other truck was being driven by 25-year-old Hamwete Mathews of Manungu Compound in Monze and was travelling in the opposite direction, with one passenger on board.
According to police, the accident occurred when the driver of the International truck allegedly failed to keep to his near-side lane and veered into the opposite lane, where he collided head-on with the oncoming MAN truck.
The driver of the MAN truck and his passenger, identified as 20-year-old Morris Mwiimbu, who was also his co-driver, sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.
The driver of the International truck sustained a fractured left hand, a deep cut on the head, cuts on the right leg and general body pains.
He is currently admitted to Solwezi General Hospital.
The bodies of the two deceased have been deposited at the Solwezi General Hospital mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examinations.
Both trucks sustained extensive damage and remain at the accident scene after being examined by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), awaiting towing.
Mr Siwale has since urged motorists and other road users to observe traffic rules and regulations as provided for in the Highway Code to prevent road traffic accidents.
