The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has set October 2, 2026 for a ruling on whether former politician Sean Tembo has a case to answer on charges of using insulting language against President Hakainde Hichilema.
This comes after the State closed its case after telling the court that the arresting officer who was scheduled to testify before court was unavailable and that his evidence had largely been covered by five witnesses who have already testified.
Mr Tembo is facing two counts of using insulting language, allegedly committed between August and October 2023, contrary to Section 179 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
With the State having closed its case, the defence will now argue whether there is sufficient evidence to put Mr Tembo on his defence.
Magistrate Davies Chibwili has set October 2, 2026 for a ruling on whether Mr Tembo has a case to answer.
