TRUCK CRASH DAMAGES NEWLY BUILT SIMON MWANSA KAPWEPWE TOLL GATE IN CHINSALI

A Tanzanian Truck transporting copper from the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC has crashed into the newly opened Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Toll Gate in Chinsali.

Muching Police Commanding Officer Kennedy Kangombe has confirmed the development to Diamond media staying that the incident happening the evening of Thursday 16 July 2026, around 18 hours.

Mr Kangombe has identified the truck as a Hino truck and trailer registration number T185 DAJ/T896 DBV, owned by Alistair Logistics Company, which was being driven by 54-year-old Eliapenda Nehemiah Mchomvu of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.

Brief facts are that, the Driver lost control of the truck due to excessive speed causing the vehicle to veer off and hit a toll gate pillar, which resulted in minor damage to the structure and breaking the left guard rails. The impact caused all 13 bundles of copper to fall to the ground.

The truck’s horse was extensively damaged in the accident, while the driver escaped unhurt.

The motor vehicle remains at the scene and investigations have been instituted.
