SPAIN REACH WORLD CUP FINAL AFTER DEFEATING FRANCE 2-0

.

Spain have booked their place in the FIFA World Cup final for the first time since 2010 after defeating tournament favourites France 2-0.

Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring from the penalty spot before right-back Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s advantage with a superbly worked finish, sending Luis de la Fuente’s side through to Sunday’s final.

Spain dominated possession from the opening whistle, effectively neutralising France’s celebrated attacking force.

Kylian Mbappé, the tournament’s joint-leading scorer with eight goals, was kept quiet for long stretches as Spain’s midfield trio of Rodri, Pedri, and Fabián Ruiz dictated play throughout the match.

France’s bid to become only the third nation to reach three consecutive World Cup finals ended in frustration. Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise struggled against Spain’s relentless press, while Aymeric Laporte’s defensive leadership kept France’s attacking threats at bay.

Spain’s victory ends a 16-year wait for a World Cup final appearance. They will now face either England or Argentina, who contest the second semi-final on Wednesday.
