GOVERNMENT SIGNS K4.3 BILLION CONTRACTS TO ROLL OUT SOLAR POWER PLANTS IN ALL 156 CONSTITUENCIES

Government has signed contracts worth over K4.3 billion for the implementation of the Presidential Constituency Energy Initiative (PCEI), a flagship programme that will see the construction of 2-megawatt solar power plants in each of Zambia’s 156 constituencies.

Speaking during the contract signing ceremony, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Nicholas Phiri says the initiative, approved by Cabinet in November 2025, is expected to add 312 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, stimulate local economic growth, create jobs and strengthen service delivery.

On behalf of the contractors, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Managing Director Jacques Lio reaffirmed the consortium’s commitment to delivering the projects on time, while promoting local employment, skills transfer and sustainable development through close collaboration with communities and Government.

In this project the 70 newly created constituencies will also be catred for.
