The Zambia Police Service in Lusaka has detained a 33-year-old male suspect, identified as Michael Sikanyika, in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, 29-year-old Memory Mwale, of Garden House Compound.
Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says the matter was reported to Twin Palm Police Post on June 26, 2026, at around 09:30 hours by Luka Mwale, aged 66, who identified the deceased as his biological daughter.
Mr. Chilabi says preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased and the suspect were in a relationship and allegedly had a domestic dispute at the deceased’s residence between June 25, 2026, at around 20:00 hours and June 26, 2026, at around 06:00 hours, which resulted in an altercation.
He says that following the incident, the suspect allegedly left the scene and later returned to his residence within the same compound.
Police officers who visited the scene found the body of the deceased lying on her bed with visible injuries.
The body has since been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination, while investigations continue.
