The Zambia Police Service has confirmed that the victim in the Kabwata shooting incident, 40-year-old Zambia Army Warrant Officer Class Two Matimba Habeenzu, has died.
Police say Warrant Officer Habeenzu, who sustained gunshot wounds during the June 13 shooting, had been receiving treatment at the University Teaching Hospital and was discharged on Thursday, June 25.
However, after returning home, she reportedly became unconscious later that night and was rushed to Maina Soko Medical Centre, where she was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
Her body has since been deposited in the mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Following her death, police have reclassified the case from attempted murder to murder.
The suspect, fellow Zambia Army Warrant Officer Mwanauta Chansa, had earlier died after allegedly ingesting pesticide.
Police say investigations into the matter are ongoing as they continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
