Electorates in Mazabuka Central Constituency have welcomed the decision by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to lift the suspension of political campaigns in the constituency.
Speaking this afternoon, officials from independent candidate Gary Nkombo’s campaign team expressed happiness over the development, saying the resumption of campaigns will allow candidates to reconnect with voters and continue delivering their messages.
However, the officials also raised concerns about the number of days lost during the suspension period, arguing that the ban had significantly reduced the time available for candidates to campaign effectively.
The team further called on ECZ and the Zambia Police Service to closely monitor the electoral environment and address alleged irregularities.
They claimed that some suspected UPND cadres were allegedly mobilising individuals to wear T-shirts bearing the images of Gary Nkombo and Brian Mundubile, a move they described as misleading and potentially disruptive to the electoral process.
The officials urged law enforcement agencies and ECZ to ensure that all political players adhere to electoral guidelines and that any reported irregularities are thoroughly investigated.
