The Lusaka Magistrate Court has convicted a 47-year-old man of indecent assault involving his seven-year-old daughter at the Cancer Diseases Hospital (CDH) in Lusaka.
The court heard that the accused sexually abused the child while she was admitted at the hospital for cancer treatment under his care.
Lusaka Magistrate Kawama Mwafuli ruled that witness testimonies, medical evidence, and the child’s account were consistent and sufficiently proved the prosecution’s case.
However, the court acquitted the accused of incest, stating that the prosecution had failed to fully prove that specific charge, but upheld the indecent assault count.
The accused has since been committed to the High Court for mitigation and sentencing.
