VEHICLE GUTTED BY FIRE ON CAIRO ROAD IN LUSAKA

A Toyota Mark X vehicle was extensively damaged after it caught fire along Cairo Road near the Indo Zambia Bank South End Branch in Lusaka on Tuesday evening.

According to the Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi , the incident occurred between 19:30 hours and 20:00 hours on May 19, 2026, involving a white Toyota Mark X registration number BLB 515 ZM driven by Peter Chisha of Lusaka.

Police say Lusaka Central Police Station received a report of the incident at around 20:15 hours from a member of the public.

Preliminary investigations indicate that shortly after 19:00 hours, Chisha was driving from north to south along Cairo Road when the vehicle suddenly caught fire.

The driver reportedly suffered smoke inhalation and was rushed to hospital for medical attention. He was later treated and discharged.

Police officers, working together with the Lusaka City Council Fire Brigade, responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the vehicle sustained extensive damage.

The burnt vehicle has since been towed to Lusaka Central Police Station as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
