A 45-year-old woman Agness Mwanza has brutally been murdered while harvesting soya beans in Mangani Village of Mambwe District by a man who alleged that the deceased and her husband had bewitched him, making him unable to achieve an erection.
Yelesani Nkhoma, also of same Village in Chief Mkhanya has sunce been arrested.
Mr Nkoma is reportedly in unstable mental state but has told authorities that the deceased bewitched him and her husband, Paul Banda to cause his erectile dysfunction.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed to Diamond News that the murder occurred on April 30, 2026 around 08:00 hours.
Mr. Mweemba says the deceased was in the field with her children having a conversation about a trip she had undertaken to church.
Moments later, they saw the accused kick their mother, causing her to fall to the ground.
As she attempted to get up, the suspect allegedly stabbed her twice in the neck with a knife.
She died instantly from the wounds due to accessive bleeding.
The children then alerted their father who was working in a nearby field who rushed to the scene and found his wife lying in a pool of blood with Nkhoma still standing nearby holding the knife.
Villagers mobilized quickly and apprehended the suspect.
The body has been taken to Kamoto Mission Hospital in Mambwe district, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
