MAZABUKA MAYOR WITHDRAWS FROM UPND DISTRICT TREASURER RACE AMID ALLEGATIONS AGAINST MAGOYE MP

.

Mazabuka Mayor Vincent Lilanda has withdrawn from the position of District Treasurer under the United Party for National Development (UPND), citing concerns over alleged irregularities and what he described as facilitation confusions.

Addressing the media, Mr. Lilanda, who appeared visibly frustrated, said he was shocked to learn that another contender had allegedly contested for the same position, despite being informed earlier that he was unopposed during the morning voting process.

He further accused Magoye Member of Parliament, Mweemba Malambo, of issuing threats. Mr. Lilanda claimed that while on his way to monitor voting in Magoye, he received a message alleging that the MP had instructed youths to block him from entering the Magoye Secretariat, where vote counting was taking place.

Mr. Lilanda has since thanked his supporters for backing him and also expressed gratitude to party commissioners for nullifying last week’s election results.

Meanwhile, when contacted for a comment, Mr. Malambo denied the allegations, stating that he has never had any disputes with the mayor and questioned why his name was being brought into the matter.
