The Ngoni Royal Establishment has backed the delimitation process by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), which seeks to create 70 new constituencies ahead of the 2026 General Election, stating that the exercise must succeed.
Eastern Province Council of Chiefs Chairperson, Chief Mnukwa of the Ngoni people, speaking on behalf of Paramount Chief Mpezeni, says delimitation will help enhance equitable development and bring leaders closer to the people.
However, Chief Mnukwa expressed concern over what he termed as a lack of consultation by some Members of Parliament regarding the naming of proposed new constituencies.
He added that there appears to be little respect for traditional names and heritage.
ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis apologized over the concerns, stating that the Commission is there to listen to issues being raised by stakeholders.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia is currently in Eastern Province receiving provincial delimitation reports.
