About 6,000 runners are expected to participate in the 2026 Kenneth Kaunda Day Marathon, scheduled for April 28, 2026, in Lusaka.
The event, which has a projected budget of K6.5 million, has already secured K3.5 million through partnerships with Stanbic Bank Zambia and Professional Insurance Corporation Zambia (PICZ).
Speaking during the launch, Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba says the marathon plays a key role in preserving the legacy of Zambia’s founding President, Kenneth Kaunda, while promoting sports tourism in the country.
Meanwhile, Zambia Athletics President Major Bernard Bwalya has revealed plans to have the marathon formally rated to qualify for the prestigious ABSA Marathon Series, a move expected to significantly elevate the event’s international standing.
