Musicians Maiko Zuku and Sista D have called on authorities to appoint an independent and civil society-driven inquiry into allegations of sexual abuse in women’s football.
The reports come when the women’s national team are about to commence preparations for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
In a statement made available to Diamond Sports, the duo say this will provide an opportunity for everyone to clear themselves or perpetrators to be brought to account for their actions.
They add that the matter should not be about political camps or football camps but about the girl child who will forever live with the trauma of being sexually abused, being infected, being forced into possible multiple abortions.
“This matter should be about our sport (not only football) being cleansed of such disgusting tendencies that have reportedly been happening for a long time.”
“We call upon other civil society members to join this cause and give credibility to calls for an independent inquiry.”
