TOUGH WAFCON GROUP NO CONCERN FOR COACH HAUPTLE

.

Copper Queens Head Coach Nora Häuptle says Zambia’s difficult group at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be a litmus test for her side ahead of the knockout stages of the tournament.

Zambia has been drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Nigeria, Egypt, and debutants Malawi, following the draw held in Rabat.

The tournament will be staged in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026, with matches scheduled to take place in Rabat, Casablanca, and Fez.

Reacting to the draw, Häuptle said facing Nigeria early will provide a valuable test and could boost confidence if the team performs well, while also cautioning against underestimating Malawi.

The Copper Queens are aiming for a stronger showing after their previous WAFCON campaign ended with a quarterfinal defeat to Nigeria.

Zambia will open their group matches against Egypt on March 18 in Casablanca, face Nigeria on March 21 at the same venue, and conclude the group stage against Malawi in Fez.
