A family in Chilenje has lost all their household property in an inferno that engulfed their four-bedroomed house around 08:00 hours today, causing extensive damage to the roof and interior.
According to the homeowner, Ms. Nasilele Songiso, the tragic incident occurred shortly after she left home for the farm. Moments later, she received distressing calls from neighbours urging her to return immediately. Ms. Songiso, who had left her children sleeping, rushed back to find the house in flames.
She says neighbours frantically attempted to extinguish the fire as they waited for the fire brigade, who reportedly arrived an hour later.
Ms. Songiso adds that the cause of the inferno has not yet been established, but it is believed to have started in one of the children’s bedrooms who were sleeping at the time.
All occupants managed to escape without injuries.
