The New Congress Party (NCP) has formally announced its complete withdrawal from the Tonse Alliance, citing persistent interference, manipulation, and hypocrisy from individuals allegedly aligned with the Patriotic Front (PF) operating within the alliance.
NCP President Peter Chanda says the decision follows weeks of frustration over attempts by figures such as Given Lubinda to “hijack” the party for personal political gain.
Mr. Chanda says NCP will not participate in any future alliance activities and will instead chart an independent course ahead of the 2026 elections.
However,he has stated that the party remains open to collaborating with individuals and groups who sincerely uphold the vision and legacy of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
He adds that the party will soon hold a General Congress where he intends to seek re-election as president and officially launch his bid for the presidency, pledging leadership anchored on integrity, unity, and national prosperity.
