Residents of Livingstone’s Libuyu Compound have expressed outrage at Zambia’s power utility company, ZESCO, following a suspected power fault that led to the burning of a house over the weekend.
The house, reportedly belonging to a local resident, caught fire on Saturday, October 25, 2025, destroying all household property while the owner was away on her daily business errands.
Videos captured by locals show firefighters arriving at the scene to extinguish the blaze; however, their efforts came too late, as the fire had already consumed all essential belongings.
While experts are yet to confirm the exact cause of the fire, neighbors have blamed the incident on ZESCO’s intermittent power supply and unannounced outages. They suspect that a power surge following an outage may have triggered the inferno.
Residents have since called on ZESCO to strictly adhere to its load management schedule and improve communication with affected communities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
