
Police in Chasefu District of Eastern Province have launched a manhunt for the suspect allaged to have murderered a 12-year-old girl who was found strangled in a bush with signs of sexual assault.
Both Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba and the victims relatives have confirmed that Brenda Moyo, a Grade 2 pupil at Kamwa Primary School, was found dead on Thursday near her village after she was reported missing.
The child’s body was discovered with a black rope around her neck, bruising on her face and limbs and blood stains on her private parts with her underwear away from the body.
Her body has since been taken to a health facility mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Briefs details of the matter are that the girl had left for school with two sisters on Wednesday morning but never returned home.
The sisters, also aged 12 assumed she had gone to their grandmother’s home and did not raise an alarm until the following day, when news of a dead girl in the bush spread.
