65-year-old farmer Caroline Mwiya from Livingstone has made a two-day journey to Lusaka to meet Republican Vice President W.K. Mutale Nalumango and thank her for supporting President Hakainde Hichilema.
Ms Mwiya says she was inspired by Maggie Sapatu, who previously travelled from Mwinilunga to State House to meet President Hichilema. She says she decided to undertake a similar journey to meet the Vice President and recognise her contribution to supporting the President’s vision for Zambia.
Ms Mwiya says she travelled mainly on foot but also received lifts from motorists along the way.
She has since presented Mrs Nalumango with gifts of groundnuts, beans and samp, together with a handwritten speech explaining the reason for her journey.
Meanwhile, Vice President, Mrs Nalumango has thanked Ms Mwiya for recognising her contribution, saying the UPND is a big political party and it is humbling that she chose to make the journey specifically to meet her.
Mrs Nalumango says how Ms Mwiya arrived in Lusaka matters less than the purpose behind her journey, adding that citizens should support good causes, appreciate what is being done well and speak out when things go wrong by calling a spade a spade.
