Police in Lusaka is investigating the sudden death of a 22 year old woman identified as Mulenga Makasa of George Compound, whose body was discovered in a drainage at a mini dumping site near Chifundo Market.
The incident is believed to have occurred between 19:30 hours on May 31, 2026, and the morning of June 1, 2026.
Matero Police Station received the report on June 1, 2026, around 06:00 hours from Mwaba Mulenga, aged 48, of George Compound, who reported that her niece had been found unresponsive in a drainage near Chifundo Market.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the body of the deceased lying face down in the drainage. She was taken to the University Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was last seen on May 31, 2026, around 19:30 hours near Chifundo Market. Earlier that day, at about 11:00 hours, she had left home for a walk within George Compound, and her movements thereafter remain unknown.
The body has since been deposited in the University Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
