
Police in Lusaka have arrested and charged Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba, former political advisor to former President Edgar Lungu, for offenses related to online harassment and libel.
Dr. Zimba, aged 45, of Chunga Village in Chongwe District, is alleged to have published two articles, one on his Facebook page on May 2, 2024, and another in The Mast newspaper on May 4, 2024 containing material considered harassing and defamatory towards Dr. Nevers Mumba.
According to Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, Dr. Zimba has been formally charged with two counts of harassment using electronic communication, contrary to Section 69 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021, and one count of libel, contrary to Section 191 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Mr. Hamoonga added that Dr. Zimba has been released on police bond and is expected to appear in court soon.
