The Zambia Revenue Authority has disclosed that it collected gross revenue of 27.3 billion kwacha in the first quarter of 2023 compared to 22.4 billion kwacha in the first quarter of 2022.
ZRA Commissioner General Dingani Banda says from the collected amount, the Authority refunded 4.1 billion kwacha to taxpayers for various tax claims during the same period.
Mr. Banda adds that ZRA realized a net revenue of 23.2 billion kwacha against a quarterly target of 23.6 billion kwacha translating into a deficit of 4 hundred million kwacha.
He adds that sectors such as mining, manufacturing, wholesale and retail, public administration and defense, financial and insurance services contributed 72 percent of the gross collections in the period under review compared to 74.1 percent during the same period in 2022.
He was speaking at the first quarter tax revenue and administration performance stakeholders meeting in Lusaka.
