A Zambia National Service (ZNS) officer who was deployed to guard Kansenseli Gold Mine in North-Western Province has been demoted after he reported having been offered a K5,000 bribe.

The officer is said to have taken the right step to report the matter to his superiors but failed to resist the money and spent K1,500 on beer.

Consequently, it led to his demotion and removal from the mineral rich site.

So far, three officers deployed to guard the site have been fired after they illegally begun mining gold from the same lucrative area.

The report is according to ZNS Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi, who has been at the mine that has three pits named Inonge Wina, Tasila Lungu and Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
