Government has disclosed that beginning next week the cost of living will begin reducing.
Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa, says this is because Zambia National Service (ZNS) Mealie-Meal brand will start trading at 230 kwacha for 25 kg breakfast while roller will be at 190 kwacha in all Shoprite outlets.
He says at all ZNS outlets it will reduce by 10 kwacha and this was arrived at after calculating the cost of production.
Mr. Mweetwa says this does not in any way mean that government is interfering in the pricing.
He says it is a free market economy and government will not control prices of other brands.
In the recent past, mealie-meal prices have been escalating trading between 295 kwacha and 300 kwacha, a situation that has caused panic among the public who cannot afford the hiked commodity.
