Residents of Matero’s Chingwere Compound have raised alarm over the rising cases of vandalism and theft of power cables, a situation that has left several households in darkness for the past three days.
The affected community members say this is not the first time such an incident has occurred, but what worries them most is the growing trend and the slow response from the power utility company, ZESCO.
They have called on the company to implement stronger control measures, including restoring power at night to help residents keep watch as a way to avoid further thefts.
Meanwhile, the damaged power cables remain unattended to, with residents expressing frustration.
The company’s Public Relations unit has not issued a statement on the matter.
When contacted, ZESCO’s Public Relations Unit said the company is awaiting a report from its security team and will respond accordingly.
