ZESCO, NATIONAL ARTS COUNCIL PARTNERS TO FIGHT VANDALISM IN KANYAMA

ZESCO Limited has partnered with the National Arts Council through the YAAV Initiative Programme to launch a community sensitization campaign in Kanyama aimed at combating vandalism of electricity infrastructure.

The campaign, held in one of Lusaka’s most densely populated areas, seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of vandalism and to encourage communities to take responsibility for protecting national assets.

ZESCO Principal Security Officer for the Lusaka South Region, Mr. Elvis Shimishi, said the fight against vandalism requires collective effort and active participation from the public. He emphasized that community engagement remains key in safeguarding power installations.

Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM), Vice President,Yahya Kaba also stressed the need to take the fight seriously, noting that vandalism affects everyone by disrupting electricity supply and increasing maintenance costs.

The event featured performances by artists Chester, Power, Bflow, and CQ, who used music to deliver messages about the consequences of vandalism and the importance of protecting public property.

ZESCO has since warned that vandalism of power infrastructure leads to costly repairs, frequent power outages, and risks to public safety.
