ZESCO CUTS POWER EXPORTS

.

Zesco has reduced power exports from 520 megawatts in February 2024 to 106 megawatts, with further cuts expected in October.

Senior Manager Colins Mumba has revealed that the utility spends between $15–20 million monthly on electricity imports, sourced directly from five suppliers. He said imports vary monthly depending on availability, with September recording a maximum of 230 megawatts.

Speaking at a UPND Media–Zesco engagement, UPND Media Director Mark Simuwe said such platforms help the public understand the country’s power challenges and solutions.

Despite these measures, Zambia continues to face loadshedding, which has disrupted communities, jobs, and businesses.
