Zambia is expected to lose over 700 women in 2022 through Maternal Mortality as a result of bleeding after delivery.

Ministry of Health Assistant Director Reproductive Health Dr. Angel Mwiche says the country on a weekly basis loses about 11-15 women, and with two weeks remaining to conclude the year, more are expected to die beating last years 707 deaths recorded.

Dr. Mwiche Says urban areas such as Lusaka and Copperbelt Provinces are recording high numbers of Maternal Mortalities, which is worrying knowing that urban areas have good facilities to help mothers.

Speaking on the sidelines on the protecting the lives of pregnant women in Africa (PPAZ JOICFP) workshop in Ndola today Dr. Mwiche however says the ministry has put up preventive measures such as increased family planning among the women and the adolescents
