The United States government says the timely finalization of debt treatment for Zambia is a top priority for the Treasury Department.
U.S Secretary to the Treasury, Janet Yellen, has told President Hakainde Hichilema at State House that her country will continue to press for all official bilateral and private sector creditors to meaningfully participate in debt relief for Zambia, especially China.
Ms. Yellen says the US partnership with Zambia is crucial amidst significant global economic headwinds including spillovers from the Russia-Ukraine war.
And President Hakainde Hichilema has also pledged his commitment to enhance bilateral ties with Joe Biden led administration.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane has asked Ms. Yellen to help attract American investors to tap into Zambia’s vast potential in mining, tourism, manufacturing among other key sectors that require growth.
