
The Bank of Zambia will tomorrow officially launch the Heritage Series, a new family of banknotes designed to improve security, enhance transaction efficiency, and celebrate Zambia’s rich cultural and historical legacy.
The new notes which will gradually replace the previous series introduced in 2012 and feature cutting-edge security features to combat counterfeiting while showcasing Zambia’s heritage through unique imagery and designs.
The Heritage Series was first announced on February 11, 2025, with the Bank of Zambia revealing key design elements that distinguish the new notes from their predecessors. Each denomination features enhanced security features such as color-shifting ink, tactile elements for the visually impaired, and improved watermark technology.
Additionally, the designs incorporate iconic Zambian landmarks, traditional symbols, and notable historical figures, reinforcing the country’s rich cultural identity.
Public education campaigns have been underway to familiarize citizens with the new banknotes, ensuring a smooth transition.
The Bank of Zambia has assured the public that both the old and new series will remain in circulation for a transitional period, allowing businesses and individuals to adapt seamlessly to the change.
