A Zambian national, Phillip Zvaipa, will be laid to rest on Monday, April 6, 2026, at his farm in Makeni, his brother William Zimindo has confirmed.
Mr. Zimindo says the burial was initially scheduled for Sunday, April 5, 2026, but was postponed following intervention by Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, to allow the family to conduct a postmortem.
He has noted that the assistance rendered by the Speaker has yielded positive results.
Meanwhile, preparations for the burial have commenced in Makeni, where family members, friends, and sympathisers have gathered to mourn Mr. Zvaipa.
Mr. Zvaipa, a car salesman who frequently travelled to Tanzania to collect vehicles, was brutally killed after being falsely accused of stealing a man’s private parts. The incident reportedly occurred near a market where he had gone to buy rice.
According to reports, a man allegedly touched him and raised the alarm, prompting a violent reaction from members of the public. An enraged mob is said to have attacked him—beating and stoning him before eventually setting him ablaze.
His death has left his family devastated, with relatives now calling for justice and accountability over the horrific incident.
