Zambia has signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), worth a total of US$2.14 billion, to support investment across various sectors of the economy.
Among the agreements is a US$2 billion MoU between the Ministry of Health and DIHAD Sustainable Project Management LLC for the development of a Medical City in Lusaka’s Airport City.
The Medical City is expected to provide specialised services, including paediatric cardiac care, renal treatment, cancer treatment, research and training for health specialists.
The project is also expected to reduce the number of Zambians travelling abroad for specialised treatment and support the development of medical tourism.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) has signed an MoU with the Royal Group of Companies to identify and promote investment opportunities in agriculture, mining, infrastructure, housing, hospitality and water development.
The partnership is expected to support value addition, job creation and increased private sector participation.
The six agreements were signed during the Zambia-UAE Business Forum in Abu Dhabi and cover sectors including healthcare, technology, biotechnology, logistics and port-related services.
