CLARIFICATION ON VIDEO CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA INVOLVING A FEMALE EMPLOYEE – FORGERY, UTTERING OF FALSE DOCUMENTS, AND THEFT BY SERVANT
March 1, 2026 – The Zambia Police Service wishes to clarify the circumstances surrounding a video currently circulating on social media depicting two Chinese nationals restraining a female employee.
The incident relates to a reported case of forgery, uttering of false documents, and theft by servant involving employees of ZAMFRESH Company situated along Mungwi Road in Lusaka West.
The report was made on March 1, 2026 at around 09:00 hours by Mr. Cheng Longin, aged 40, a Chinese national and representative of the company. It is alleged that the company cashier, Ruth Banda, aged 23, in collaboration with her supervisor, Charles Manze, forged a company invoice and subsequently stole company funds amounting to K14,000.00.
Brief facts of the matter are that on March 1, 2026 around 08:30 hours, Mr. Abraham Zulu, aged 54, a Cold Room Supervisor at ZAMFRESH, discovered that a consignment of 240 kilograms of fish valued at K14,000.00 had been released to an unknown customer without a corresponding invoice. He immediately alerted his supervisor, Mr. Yang Ke Yong.
While management was conducting internal inquiries regarding the irregular release of the consignment, the cashier was allegedly observed attempting to leave the cashier’s office with a handbag suspected to contain company funds.
As she allegedly attempted to flee the premises, two Chinese supervisors restrained her. During the commotion, some customers recorded the incident, resulting in the video now circulating on social media.
During the process, the suspect reportedly dropped money near the cashier’s office door.
Police officers were alerted, visited the scene, and reviewed CCTV footage, which corroborated the sequence of events.
A total of K7,500.00 suspected to have been stolen has since been recovered from the suspect.
The second suspect, Charles Manze, who is believed to have jointly acted with the cashier, fled the scene and is currently on the run. A manhunt has since been launched.
The Zambia Police Service wishes to inform members of the public that the individuals seen in the video were restraining the suspect pending police intervention following the alleged commission of an offence.
The matter remains under active investigation, and due process is being followed.
The Zambia Police Service urges members of the public to refrain from speculation and the circulation of misleading information, as investigations are ongoing.
We remain committed to ensuring that justice is administered in a fair, impartial, and lawful manner.
