Patriotic Front Members of Parliament have condemned remarks attributed to President Hakainde Hichilema where he is quoted advising the Finance Minister to sue Lumezi Member of Parliament, Munir Zulu who accused his minister of being involved in alleged corruption.
Speaking during a media engagement in Lusaka, Chilubi lawmaker, Mulenga Fube says the president’s remarks have the potential to intimidate whistle-blowers, hence are against the rule of law.
Mr. Fube says on moral grounds, the country should not host the summit if the government is not willing to respect the democratic rights of its citizens.
However, UPND Parliamentarians have also counter-reacted by saying there is no basis to cancel next week’s high-level meeting.
Justice Minister, Mulambo Haimbe, says well-meaning Zambians should be celebrating the occasion because it is aimed at sharing great practices of democracy.
