Zambia’s trade balance has decreased to 44.5 billion kwacha in 2022 from the 80 billion kwacha in 2021.
Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) Interim Statistician General Mulenga Musepa says this translates into a 44.3 percent decrease.
He adds that the cumulative trade decreased by 2.9 percent to 349.7 billion kwacha in December, 2022 from 360. 2 billion kwacha in December, 2021.
He further says the decrease translates into a 0.5 billion kwacha trade deficit, necessitated by the decrease in exports of 9.2 percent to an increase in imports by 13 percent.
He notes that Zambia’s main traditional export which is copper decreased by 11.9 percent.
