Zambia’s national football team has triumphed over Sierra Leone in a thrilling 3-2 victory during a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The Chipolopolo came into the match determined to keep their qualification hopes alive following a recent 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast.
The team’s attacking intent was clear from the start, with Kennedy Musonda opening the scoring early on, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Sierra Leone, however, did not back down easily.
The Leone Stars quickly responded with an equalizer, setting the stage for an intense contest.
Zambia regained the lead through a well-placed shot by Kelvin Kampamba, who capitalized on a defensive error. But once again, Sierra Leone fought back, leveling the match at 2-2 with a powerful strike in the second half.
As the game neared its end, it was Kings Kangwa who delivered the decisive blow, scoring Zambia’s third and final goal.
The Chipolopolo managed to hold off Sierra Leone’s attempts to equalize, securing the vital win.
Speaking after the match, Zambia’s coach Avram Grant praised the team’s resilience.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone head coach, Amidu Karim, says despite distraction from the fourth officials he is happy that his team put up a good fight and will focus on the remaining four matches in the qualifiers.
